Service Learning Opportunities

1.) Clear Lake City Community Association is looking for volunteers for the annual Fall Family Event on Friday, October 25 from 5 - 9 PM.  Volunteer check in is located in the gym at 16511 Diana Lane. Feel free to wear costumes.  Volunteers will assist with set up, games, events, and clean up. 


2.) The City of Nassau Bay is looking for volunteers for their upcoming Halloween event.  Students are needed from 2 to 5 PM and from 5:30-8:30, but students can work both shifts.  You will be helping with the carnival and face painting.  The event will take place on Saturday, October 26 in El Lago at 100 Tallowwood.  Please wear nonscary Halloween costumes.  Sign up with Mrs. Kahlich in 9.107 asap!

The NASA Exchange –JSC will hold its community event,  NASA’s Annual Monster Bash / Fall Festival on Friday, October 18th from 6:00-8:30 PM at NASA’s Gilruth Center located on Space Center Blvd. (Directions attached).  We are in need of volunteers to WORK THE EVENT, 5:00-9:30 pm and SET UP For the event during the day Friday (join us if you are available).  Family activities include a Children’s Party complete with a Music, Dancing, Refreshments, Bounce House, Hay Ride (weather permitting), Family and Kid’s Costume Contests, BYO-Carved Pumpkin contest, Face Painting, Pumpkin Decorating, Pie Eating Contest, Mummy Wrapping Contest, Boo Bowling, and the Trick or Treat Trail BOOO-ths in the Ballroom and lots more games and activities for the little ones.   And, new this year, a Haunted Maze specifically for teens and a Digital Scavenger Hunt for Teens and Parents. A hot dog dinner is included with ticket price for kids; donations are accepted for adults and teen refreshments. We will welcome you any hours that you are available.  If you would like to participate, please REGISTER HERE

It is that time of year for our Annual Halloween Carnival at Baywind Village Care Center!We are in need of your wonderful student volunteers for our 2 shifts. Set up:  11 AM to 1:30 PM and the carnival:   1:30 PM to 4:30 PMStudents will receive a verification certificate for their volunteer service on the day of the event.  They have the opportunity to receive up to 5 ½ hours/Students should email directly to sign up to volunteer.  Email:  activities@baywindvillagecare.net We can take up to 40 volunteers.This year’s Halloween Carnival is, Sunday, October 27th, 2019.

5. ) 
Calling all Carnival Barkers, Face Painters and Fortune Tellers!

It's almost Fall Festival time at Ed White Elementary again, October 19, and we are again seeking High School Volunteers who want service hours to assist us in making our day a success!!! 

 We need people to help us blow up balloons and set up on Friday before the event, and we also need people to help us run the games and monitor the bounce houses on the day of the event. ALSO, this year we are asking local high school students versed in art and theater to act as face painters and fortune tellers for our festival goers. It's a great and fun way to earn service hours and sharpen your skills! Paints will be provided to face painters and guidance on fortune telling will be given as well. 

 

Shifts are one hour long though you can combine shifts for more. Partial shifts will also be considered.

 YMCA Volunteers Needed!  Perry Family YMCA Fall Market and Festival, Saturday, October 26 from 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM.  Volunteers register by emailing Kassandra Long at Kassandra.long@ymcahouston.org.


7.)  Volunteers for Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals Clear Lake is hosting a fall carnival.  Below you will find the information to volunteer.

When: October 30th

Where: Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals Clear Lake

Address: 709 W. Medical Center Blvd, Webster, TX 77598

Time 4:00pm – (approximately) 8:30/9:00 pm

What the students would do: Help set up tents, work stands, walk around, greet people, possibly work the haunted house if they do one this year, and have fun!

8.) CHECHS has adopted a highway along Hwy 3 from Fuqua to Edgebrook.  We will be cleaning the highway on the following dates: September 28, February 22, and April 4.  To participate please sign up with Ms. Kahlich, 9.107.

9.) Students interested in assisting the elderly can volunteer at Autumn Leaves located at 14225 Crescent Landing Drive, Houston, Texas 77062 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  Autumn Leaves is looking for students who are willing to play board games, dominos, and bingo with residents.  Please see Mrs. Kahlich in 9.107 for more information. 

10.) Southeast Texas Great Dane Rescue organization is looking for volunteers to help at various events.  If you are interested in helping please reach out to Teresa Wright, volunteer@saveadane.org, and she will send you a volunteer application. 


 





 

Caregivers' Conference:  The Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and Interfaith Care Partners 6th annual Caregivers' Conference is Saturday, March 18.  Volunteers are needed for Friday, March 17, from 12:00 – 4:30 PM, and Saturday, March 18, from 7:20 AM – 2:20 PM.  The primary responsibilities are to greet the conference attendees including speakers and exhibitors, assisting attendees with campus directions, and to be a workshop host (welcoming participants, distributing and collecting evaluations). Volunteers receive lunch catered by Pomodoros!  For information email Deb Hale, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church volunteer coordinator at isam39@verizon.net.

 

Seabrook Lucky Trails Saturday 5K:  Volunteers are needed for the The Seabrook Lucky Trails Saturday 5K, which will be held Saturday, March 18, benefitting the Clear Creek Education Foundation!!  This is a great opportunity to promote healthy lifestyles in your community and have fun at the same time!!

Don’t worry, Upward Sports will be there with you all along the way to provide all the resources you’ll need to instruct your team and have a lasting impact in their lives.

Time Commitment: 2 Hours per week

                1 hour practice during the week and 1 hour Saturday morning game

ASSISTANT COACH

Make a difference in the lives of young athletes by helping the head coach teach both athletic skills and values for success.  Use this time to see if you might want to be a head coach in the future.

Time Commitment: 2 Hours per week

                1 hour practice during the week and 1 hour Saturday morning game

REFEREE

Do you have a passion for the sport and have a working knowledge of the rules of the game?  If so, use this gift to make an impact in the lives of young athletes as an Upward Sports Referee. Be the one who can make the necessary calls, uphold the integrity of the game, and help athletes improve their understanding of the sport.

Time Commitment:  Saturday Mornings

 

CCISD Science Extravaganza:  The CCISD Science Extravaganza is in need of volunteers Wednesday, March 22, at Space Center Houston. Volunteers are needed at the following times: 

Set-up help: 4:00-6:00PM     Event help: 6:00-8:30PM

Paws With A Cause:  The non-profit, CANBE, is hosting the first annual Paws With A Cause fundraiser, benefitting the Nassau Bay Animal Shelter on Saturday, April 1, from 11am-3pm. All volunteers will receive a delicious lunch cooked by the Holy Smokers from Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, and the thanks of the CANBE and the City of Nassau Bay Animal Shelter. If you are interested, please email Mrs. Nylen at nnylen@ccisd.net by Friday, March 10.

 

Clear Lake United Methodist Church Eggstravaganza:  Clear Lake United Methodist Church will hold their annual “Eggstravaganza” Saturday, April 15, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and are in need of several helpers to run stations. This is an outreach to our surrounding community as many of them come and hunt eggs, get pictures with the Easter bunny and have fun. The Crossings Fish Fry:  Twenty students are needed to volunteer at The Crossings Fish Fry on Sunday, April 30 from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM.  Students will be involved in setting up, including decorating, bringing in auction items, plating food to serve guests, fill beverages, and clear up plates. The location is 255 N. Egret Bay Blvd. in League City.  Students should comply with school dress code or you may be asked to leave.  If you are interested, please email Mrs. Nylen at nnylen@ccisd.net with a phone number and email address.
