PSAT:  The PSAT will be administered to all 9th, 10th, and 11th graders TODAY Wednesday, October 11.  Freshmen and sophomores will meet and test in their Advisory rooms (Except Mrs. Bufford’s advisory, which will meet and test in S9.140).  Juniors will meet and test in the BQR.  Seniors will report to S9.116 for advisory class.

 

Nine Weeks Exams:  This week is nine weeks exam week!  Please speak with your high school teachers about the date of your nine weeks exam.

 

Reach: Reach is a Christian club for everyone. We will be meeting TODAY Wednesday, October 11, after school from 3:30 – 4:30 in Mrs. Allen’s room, S9.112. Join us for food, fun, and fellowship! Reach is not sponsored by CCISD or Clear Horizons.

 

Vietnamese Student Association: The Vietnamese Student Association will meet TOMORROW Thursday, October 12, from 3:30-4:30 in Ms. Maldonado’s room.

 

BPA:  All BPA members must give Ms. Kahlich your BPA form indicating your events and t-shirt size by TOMORROW Thursday, October 12.

The deadline for ordering a school shirt is THIS Friday, October 13.  Just stop by the office and see Mrs. Hafer.

Remember, all Clear Horizons students must wear a school shirt while on the Service Learning Trips.  Get yours today!

 

School Pictures:  The photos are in!!  To view your photos, you must go to the photographer’s website:  www.rhondafloyd.com and follow the directions on the flyer in a content block on the home page of It’s Learning.  The Pictures will only be available for viewing and ordering October 2 – October 16.  Please order your photos before October 16.

 

BPA Pet Food Drive: BPA is sponsoring a pet food drive October 16-20.  Boxes will be placed in advisory classes to collect pet food for aniMeals on Wheels, an organization who provides food for senior citizens' pets.  The advisory who collects the largest amount of food by percentage will receive an ice cream party sponsored by Business Professionals of America.  Please help with this worthwhile cause!

 

School Picture Retakes:  School picture retakes will be Wednesday, October 18. 

 

Medical Club:  The first Medical Club Meeting is Thursday, October 19, at 3:30 pm in the BQR.  Students interested in Medical Club should plan to attend this meeting as important information will be discussed.  Students are welcome to attend even if they did not have a chance to sign up at the social.  Food will be provided.  Hope to see you there!

 

Service Learning Recognition:  Attention all Coyotes:  If you have participated in service learning or community service in the past year, you are eligible to apply for the 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.  Students interested in applying for this prestigious award can pick up a flyer from Ms. Kahlich in 9.107. Deadline for the online application is November 7, 2017.  An honoree and two runners-up will be chosen based on initiative, effort, impact, and personal growth. The honoree becomes eligible for a $1,000 state award, $5,000 national award and free trip to Washington D. C.   Please consider applying!!!!!  

 

Service Learning:  The absolute final due date for all Service Learning hours to be submitted is:

March 29 – All Service Learning Hours (at least 20 hours) must be turned in by this date.

 

As service learning is a key aspect of our mission at Clear Horizons, students who do not meet the 20 hour requirement will meet with Clear Horizons administration to explain the deficit.  Students who refuse to meet the requirement will be returned to their zoned campus.

 

Late Bus:  Clear Horizons provides a late bus that runs every Tuesday and Thursday at 4:45 PM.  The late bus will be in front of our school by 4:45 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday and typically departs within 10 minutes. The late bus will drop off in two locations: The East side of 45 at Clear Creek High School and on the West side of 45 at Brookside Intermediate. Students who are planning on riding the late bus must request a pass from the office. The request must be made for official business only (ie tutorials, a rehearsal, detention, etc.). A bus pass must be picked up before 1:00 p.m. on the day you want to ride (Tuesday or Thursday). No bus passes will be issued after lunch.  If you do not have a pass you will not be allowed to ride the bus.  If no one has picked up a late bus pass, the bus will be cancelled. Students, make sure that your parent/guardian knows that you are staying late and catching the late bus. The front office closes at 3:30p.m.  When signing up for pass students must include the following:

1) Purpose – Why are you staying late?

2) Location from 3:30 – 5:00 – Where will you be?

3) Parent Permission – Did you let your parent know you were staying late?

The reason we must have this information is so that we can find you in case of an emergency.

 

Dress Code:  Clear Horizons follows the CCISD dress code.  The student dress code can be found on our website under the “For Parents” tab or the “For Students” tab.

Driving your own vehicle to school?  All students who drive and park on campus must register with SJC for a parking permit.  Beginning this school year, all students who drive to school must also register their vehicles with the Clear Horizons office.  Please stop by the office to get a copy of the Clear Horizons Parking Regulations and a Clear Horizons Vehicle Registration Form.

 

 

Service Learning Opportunities:

 

Space Center Rotary Shrimporee 2017:  The Rotary Club of Space Center (Houston) is hosting the 2017 Shrimporee October 14, 2017.  In order to sign up to volunteer for the Shrimporee just follow these three easy steps:

LSA “Put Back Together” Day: Lutheran South is going to be holding an LSA “Put Back Together” Day Saturday, October 14.  For this event, there will be 2 work shifts.  Volunteers will help wipe down all furniture, move all furniture back to the classrooms, and clean up some more. All types of hands are needed. ALL Volunteers MUST check in at the volunteer tent (A parking lot) when they arrive and check out at the same tent when they leave. ALL Volunteers MUST be 6th Grade or older. Please do not bring any children under 6th grade. ALL Volunteers MUST wear closed toe shoes. NO sandals or flip-flops Lunch will be provided. Trunk or Treat:  Clear Lake Methodist Church is sponsoring a "Trunk or Treat" Tuesday, October 31, from 6:00-7:30 p.m.  Students should arrive with their cars at 5:00 p.m..  Please bring bags of candy, but two bags will be provided.  In order to register your car, please sign up at http://clearlakemethodist.org/trunk . Students will receive proof of participation.

 

Whitcomb Elementary Fall Festival:  The Whitcomb Elementary Fall Festival is coming soon. We are looking for volunteers for Friday, November 3, from 4-6 to help set up and on Saturday November 4 from 12-4 to help with games and concessions. Please email Kerriann Kievit at whitcombpta1vp@gmail.com if you would like to earn service hours while having fun. Service hour letters will be given to you when you sign out for your shift(s).
