Fairness – Play by the rules and consider the needs of others

Late Arrival Day: TOMORROW Wednesday, March 7, is a CCISD High School Late Arrival Day.  There will be no morning neighborhood buses available due to CCISD High School Late Arrival. Clear Horizons buses will still run from the 5 zoned high schools (a shuttle does not run from Clear View High School on Late Arrival Days).  Clear Horizons does not participate in Late Arrival Days, therefore all Clear Horizons students are required to attend all classes on that day.

Balloons:  We have been receiving reports of students taking balloons onto buses and onto the other campuses in the district.  Students are not permitted to have balloons on the buses for safety reasons.  Balloons could burst and create confusion for the driver or float into view and cause blind spots for the driver.  Balloons are not permitted on other campuses not only because of the potential for a noise distraction, but because we do not know if students on other campuses have any allergies.

Congratulations!  This past weekend, March 1-3, the Clear Horizons Business Professionals of America competed against 5,000 other high school students at the state competition in Corpus Christi.  These students were very successful and deserve recognition for their hard work and dedication.  The following students were finalists and received a medal:

  • Cem B. and Madeeha H. - 6th in Financial Analyst Team
  • Daphne K. - 6th in Personal Financial Management
  • Emily N. - 7th in Administrative Support Research Project
  • Jacqueline O. - 7th in ICD-10-CM Diagnostic Coding
  • Iliana F. - 6th in Human Resource Management
  • Ian G. - 1st in Financial Math and Analysis Concepts (Open Event)

Additional places were: Tammie H. - 25th in Fundamental Word Processing; Aline L. - 16th in Intermediate Word Processing; Madeeha H. - 12th in Advanced Spreadsheets; Natalie C. - 22nd in Medical Office Procedures; Eman B. - 18th in Business Law and Ethics.  Mrs. Kahlich is proud of all state qualifiers because they proved to be great representatives for Clear Horizons.  Way to go BPA!!!

Got talent? The 2018 Talent Show is Thursday, March 29, in the Proscenium. If you would like to take the stage, auditions are beginning March 5-9, during lunch and after school in the side BQR. Additional auditions will be held March 19-23. You must be available for rehearsals Tuesday or Wednesday 3/27 or 3/28, after school in the Proscenium. See junior Pattie M. or Mrs. Hampton for more information.  Hosts must also plan to attend rehearsals to prepare scripts for the show.

Science Fair Grant Opportunity:  Are you interested in doing a science fair project next year? Do you have an innovative idea that you’d like to test out? Thanks to the "Arepalli-Karumuri Family Grant" funds are available through the Clear Creek Education Foundation to help enhance CCISD Science Fair projects for the next school year. This funding is in honor of some outstanding individuals and CCISD educators who have had a lasting impact on many CCISD students.

  • Secondary science fair students may apply for up to $500 for their 2018-2019 science fair project under the guidance and sponsorship of a teacher.
  • Science Fair Innovative Grants will be awarded for one-time, new or enhancements to science fair projects to be implemented within the 2018-2019 school year.
  • A student may only submit one grant application.
  • Projects are reviewed and evaluated on an individual basis.
  • These grants are intended to fund projects that are supported by CCEF's mission and goals.

Students with questions or who are interested in participating in science fair next year can come talk to Mrs. Bufford in room S.252 Thursday March 8th at 3:30pm for more information on this amazing opportunity to get funding for your science fair project or science fair in general. Closed Campus: Clear Horizons ECHS is a closed campus, as are all CCISD campuses.  Because we are a closed campus, all visitors must satisfy the following requirements:

  1. All visitors must check in at the front office and receive a visitors badge
  2. All visitors must be here for official school business

No person is to be in Clear Horizons areas or with Clear Horizons students unless they have been through the proper channels.  Students MAY NOT invite friends from other schools or acquaintances they have met socially to visit our school, regardless of our location on a college campus.  Persons caught on campus who do not have official business with SJC or Clear Horizons will be reported to the police.

5 Places:  Students who have a cancelled college class or an open period may be in the following places on campus when not in class:

  1. Building 9 in a classroom with a teacher
  2. The Student Center
  3. The Library
  4. The ILC
  5. The Green Space between the 4 buildings

Students may not be in any other area (including building 7 or 8) when not in class.  The safety of our students is our utmost concern; therefore, these 5 monitored areas are the only areas students (regardless of grade level) may be when not in class.

Printer Room Paper:  Students must supply their own paper to the printer room. Paper may be purchased for $.01 per sheet (a penny per page) at the front desk in the main office.

Clear Horizons Shirts:  We still have Clear Horizons Coyote shirts available for purchase in the front office.  Short sleeve and women’s V-neck shirts are $15, long sleeve shirts are $20.  Buy yours today while supplies last!

Yearbooks:  Yearbooks are on sale now!  Order online at balfour.com or pay cash/check PAYABLE to CHECHS to Mrs. Hampton in 9.268.  Price is $35 from January 1 – April 30.  From May 1st until books sell out, books cost $40.  Order yours today!

Service Learning:  The absolute final due date for all Service Learning hours to be submitted is:

March 29 – All Service Learning Hours (at least 20 hours) must be turned in by this date.

As service learning is a key aspect of our mission at Clear Horizons, students who do not meet the 20 hour requirement will meet with Clear Horizons administration to explain the deficit.  Students who refuse to meet the requirement will be returned to their zoned campus.

Late Bus:  Clear Horizons provides a late bus that runs every Tuesday and Thursday at 4:45 PM.  The late bus will be in front of our school by 4:45 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday and typically departs within 10 minutes. The late bus will drop off in two locations: The East side of 45 at Clear Creek High School and on the West side of 45 at Brookside Intermediate. Students who are planning on riding the late bus must request a pass from the office. The request must be made for official business only (ie tutorials, a rehearsal, detention, etc.). A bus pass must be picked up before 1:00 p.m. on the day you want to ride (Tuesday or Thursday). No bus passes will be issued after lunch.  If you do not have a pass you will not be allowed to ride the bus.  If no one has picked up a late bus pass, the bus will be cancelled. Students, make sure that your parent/guardian knows that you are staying late and catching the late bus. The front office closes at 3:30p.m.  When signing up for pass students must include the following:

1) Purpose – Why are you staying late?

2) Location from 3:30 – 5:00 – Where will you be?

3) Parent Permission – Did you let your parent know you were staying late?

The reason we must have this information is so that we can find you in case of an emergency.

Intermediate and High School Campuses:  All Clear Horizons students have been informed of their appropriate locations while waiting for a bus at other campuses.  Students who do not wait in the appropriate areas will lose the privilege of riding the shuttles to or from the schools in question.  Clear Horizons students are not permitted to roam the halls at other campuses and must remain in the appropriate locations.  As a reminder, the locations have been listed below:
