Dine Out to Donate:  We are just one week away from the Clear Creek Education Foundation’s (CCEF) 2017 Dine Out to Donate fundraiser Monday, October 2.  This year you will need the flyer to get credit for dining at your favorite restaurant!  You can find the flyer on our website under the “For Parents” tab, or just follow the link:  http://chechs.ccisd.net/UserFiles/Servers/Server_655841/File/dotd_vote_slip.pdf

 

Remember, the school who gets the most participation wins a prize from the CCEF!!  You can cast one vote per email per location, so if you have multiple email accounts, you can have multiple votes!  What a great way to try out new restaurants and dining experiences – Dine Our To Donate!!!

 

STUCO: All student council members, our first meeting will be held from 3:30 – 4:30 in the BQR TODAY Thursday, September 28.  Please come join us!

 

Open House:  The Clear Horizons Open House will be held TONIGHT Thursday, September 28 from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. in our building, building 9.  The format will be different than in years past in hopes of making the night more informative.  Please be advised, some classrooms are upstairs.  There is an elevator, but it is in building 8.  We will have student helpers there to assist parents and families throughout the evening. We hope to see you all there!

 

School Pictures:  Our school photographer will be on campus for school photos Friday, September 29.  School picture makeup day will be Wednesday, October 18.

 

Houston Mayor’s Youth Council:  Would you like to be considered to be a part of the Houston Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC)?  The MYC provides high school students with opportunities to address issues that are important to Houston's youth, while learning about civic engagement through service learning projects and other activities. Eligibility requirements are listed below:

 

  • Open to high school students grades 9 - 12.
  • Applicants must live in the City of Houston city limits.
  • Applications are reviewed and select students are offered an interview. Membership selection is based on final evaluation of interview and application.
  • Members must commit to attending MYC Council meetings and participating in scheduled service learning projects. 
  • Program term runs from October to May.
  • Apply online at houstontx.gov/myc
  • Deadline to apply is Monday, October 2, 2017

 

Spanish Club:  The first Spanish Club meeting will be held Monday, October 2, from 3:30-4:30 in Ms. Maldonado’s room.

 

Journalism Club:  Journalism Club will be meeting the first Tuesday of each month from 3:30 - 4:30. Our first meeting will be next Tuesday, October 3, in Ms. Johnson's room, S9-108.

 

Art Club:  The art club will meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month.  In the month of October, we will meet Wednesday, October 4, and Wednesday, October18, in room S9.106, from 3:30 to 4:15pm.

 

Business Professionals of America:  Any student interested in joining BPA needs to give Ms. Kahlich your $40.00 dues by Thursday, October 5.  There will be a meeting on Oct. 5 at 3:30 in 9.116.  Officers will be elected and competitive events chosen.  Please meet with Ms. Kahlich if you have any questions or concerns.

 

Math Club:  Math Club is meeting Thursday, October 5, and Thursday, October 26, in preparation for the Carnegie-Vanguard Mu Alpha Theta Math Contest on Saturday, October 28.  Meet in Room 9.268 from 3:30-4:30, both days.

 

Progress Reports:  The first progress report of the year will be posted on Thursday, October 5.

 

CCISD Student Holiday:  CCISD students will have a school holiday Friday, October 6.  As there are no college classes on Fridays, Clear Horizons students will be able to enjoy a three day weekend!

 

Vietnamese Student Association: The Vietnamese Student Association’s meeting this week has been canceled. The first meeting will now take place Thursday, October 12, from 3:30-4:30 in Ms. Maldonado’s room. We are sorry for any inconvenience this cancellation has caused.

 

Service Learning Recognition:  Attention all Coyotes:  If you have participated in service learning or community service in the past year, you are eligible to apply for the 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.  Students interested in applying for this prestigious award can pick up a flyer from Ms. Kahlich in 9.107. Deadline for the online application is November 7, 2017.  An honoree and two runners-up will be chosen based on initiative, effort, impact, and personal growth. The honoree becomes eligible for a $1,000 state award, $5,000 national award and free trip to Washington D. C.   Please consider applying!!!!!  

 

Service Learning:  The absolute final due date for all Service Learning hours to be submitted is:

March 29 – All Service Learning Hours (at least 20 hours) must be turned in by this date.

 

As service learning is a key aspect of our mission at Clear Horizons, students who do not meet the 20 hour requirement will meet with Clear Horizons administration to explain the deficit.  Students who refuse to meet the requirement will be returned to their zoned campus.

 

Clear Horizons School Shirts!  It’s not too late to purchase a Clear Horizons School Shirt!!  Just stop by the office with $15 and you can have one of these great shirts to wear on your service learning trip!  Remember, all Clear Horizons students must wear a school shirt while on the Service Learning Trips.  Get yours today!

 

Late Bus:  Clear Horizons provides a late bus that runs every Tuesday and Thursday at 4:45 PM.  The late bus will be in front of our school by 4:45 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday and typically departs within 10 minutes. The late bus will drop off in two locations: The East side of 45 at Clear Creek High School and on the West side of 45 at Brookside Intermediate. Students who are planning on riding the late bus must request a pass from the office. The request must be made for official business only (ie tutorials, a rehearsal, detention, etc.). A bus pass must be picked up before 1:00 p.m. on the day you want to ride (Tuesday or Thursday). No bus passes will be issued after lunch.  If you do not have a pass you will not be allowed to ride the bus.  If no one has picked up a late bus pass, the bus will be cancelled. Students, make sure that your parent/guardian knows that you are staying late and catching the late bus. The front office closes at 3:30p.m.  When signing up for pass students must include the following:

1) Purpose – Why are you staying late?

2) Location from 3:30 – 5:00 – Where will you be?

3) Parent Permission – Did you let your parent know you were staying late?

The reason we must have this information is so that we can find you in case of an emergency.

 

Dress Code:  Clear Horizons follows the CCISD dress code.  The student dress code can be found on our website under the “For Parents” tab or the “For Students” tab.

Driving your own vehicle to school?  All students who drive and park on campus must register with SJC for a parking permit.  Beginning this school year, all students who drive to school must also register their vehicles with the Clear Horizons office.  Please stop by the office to get a copy of the Clear Horizons Parking Regulations and a Clear Horizons Vehicle Registration Form.

 

 

Service Learning Opportunities:

 

Space Center Rotary Shrimporee 2017:  The Rotary Club of Space Center (Houston) is hosting the 2017 Shrimporee October 14, 2017.  In order to sign up to volunteer for the Shrimporee just follow these three easy steps:

Wings Over Houston:  The Houston Westchase Rotary Club is seeking volunteers for Wings Over Houston on Saturday and Sunday, October 21-22 from 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM. Volunteers will direct traffic. If you are interested in volunteering, please see Ms. Kahlich (9.107) by Friday, September 22

 

Trunk or Treat:  Clear Lake Methodist Church is sponsoring a "Trunk or Treat" Tuesday, October 31, from 6:00-7:30 p.m.  Students should arrive with their cars at 5:00 p.m..  Please bring bags of candy, but two bags will be provided.  In order to register your car, please sign up at http://clearlakemethodist.org/trunk . Students will receive proof of participation.
