CCEF Dine Out to Donate!  The Clear Creek Education Foundation is holding the annual Dine Out to Donate again this year THIS Monday, October 3!!  Please plan on dining out at one of the fabulous locations listed on the flyer located on our website under the for parents tab.  The flyer can be found at the following link: http://chechs.ccisd.net/UserFiles/Servers/Server_655841/File/Dine%20Out%20to%20Donate%20-%20Vertical%20Flier.png

The school with the highest participation wins $1,000, so go out and get some great food and help Horizons win big CCEF Money!!

 

Picture Retakes:  School picture retakes are scheduled for Wednesday, October 5, from 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM.  Students who need retakes must get a pass from their 1st or 2nd period teacher to go to the Side BQR for retakes.  Seniors must go during Advisory or before 11:30.  Ladies are asked to wear a tank under their clothing to wear under an off the shoulder drape and guys are asked to wear a t-shirt so the tux will fit nicely.  This is the last chance to get a picture for the yearbook and the last chance for seniors to be on the class composite photo that will hang in the office.

 

CCISD Financial Aid Night:  Financial Aid Night will be held Wednesday, October 5, at 6:30 p.m. in the Clear Springs HS Commons.  Information will be presented regarding scholarships, financial aid, and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

 

Robotics:  Interested in the CCISD high school F.I.R.S.T. robotics team, The Robonauts?  If so, come to our information meeting Thursday, October 6, at 3:30pm in room S9.116. In the meantime, check out our website: ccisdrobonauts.org !  See you at the meeting!

 

Senior Class Car Wash:  Clear Horizons Class of 2017 is having a Car Wash!! Get your car washed and donate to the senior class Saturday, October 15, from 9:00AM – 1:00 PM.  The car wash will be held in the Riley’s Donuts parking lot, located at 2407 W Parkwood Ave., Friendswood.  Come grab a donut while we wash your car!

 

NHS Table Tutors: Would you like to have a free tutor who has successfully navigated the Horizons workload? Come to the BQR on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to get immediate help, schedule an after school tutoring session (held in a high school teacher's classroom), or to find out more about secrets of success at Horizons. These friendly experienced tutors will be stationed at a table near check-in between 1:15 -1:45 pm. What a great resource - but only if you use it! 

 

Advisory: Advisory class begins at 8:00 AM Monday through Friday.  Students who arrive after 8:00 AM MUST report to the office to check into school, regardless of their arrival time throughout the day.  The only time a student may report directly to class is to advisory class at 8:00 AM. 

 

Service Learning:  Service learning hours should be submitted to a basket in the office where students can turn in hours at any point in the year.  To help students stay organized with Service Learing Hours, we have suggested due dates for the summer and fall semester:

 

August 31 – Summer Service Learning Hours Due (Any hours accumulated over the summer should be turned in by this date.)

December 9 – Fall Service Learning Hours Due (Any hours accumulated throughout the Fall semester should be turned in by this date.)

 

The absolute final due date for all Service Learning hours to be submitted is:

March 31 – All Service Learning Hours (at least 20 hours) must be turned in by this date.

 

As service learning is a key aspect of our mission at Clear Horizons, students who do not meet the 20 hour requirement will meet with Clear Horizons administration to explain the deficit.  Students who refuse to meet the requirement will be returned to their zoned campus.

Late Bus:  Clear Horizons provides a late bus that runs every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:00 PM.  The Late Bus began running this Tuesday, August 31.  The late bus will be in front of our school by 5:00 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday and typically departs within 10 minutes. The late bus will drop off in two locations: The East side of 45 at Clear Creek High School and on the West side of 45 at Brookside Intermediate. Students who are planning on riding the late bus must request a pass from the office. The request must be made for official business only (ie tutorials, a rehearsal, detention, etc.). A bus pass must be picked up before 1:00 p.m. on the day you want to ride (Tuesday or Thursday). No bus passes will be issued after lunch.  If you do not have a pass you will not be allowed to ride the bus.   If no one has picked up a late bus pass, the bus will be cancelled. Students, make sure that your parent/guardian knows that you are staying late and catching the late bus. The front office closes at 4:00 p.m.  When signing up for pass students must include the following:

1) Purpose – Why are you staying late?

2) Location from 3:30 – 5:00 – Where will you be?

3) Parent Permission – Did you let your parent know you were staying late?

The reason we must have this information is so that we can find you in case of an emergency.

Sophomore Service Learning Trip:  The Sophomore Class will be taking a service learning trip to Armand Bayou Nature Center Friday, October 7Students must wear long pants.  Other items and clothing are Clear Horizons t-shirt, close-toed shoes, dress for the weather, garden gloves, hats or hair securing devices, bug spray, and sunscreen.  We will be outdoors the entire time so you may want to bring plenty of water and a snack.

 

 

Future Happenings:

 

Junior Service Learning Trip:  The Junior Class will be taking a service learning trip to Galveston State Park Friday, October 14.  Students should have the following for the trip:  Clear Horizons t-shirt, close-toed shoes, dress for the weather (could be chilly – wear layers) NO short shorts, hats or hair securing devices, change of clothing in case you get wet, and sunscreen.  We will be outdoors the entire time so you may want to bring plenty of water and a snack.
