November Calendar Alert!  There are three CCISD holidays in November where SJC will still be holding classes.  November 8 is a CCISD student holiday, but SJC will hold regular classes.  November 21 and 22 are both CCISD holidays (the beginning of Thanksgiving Holiday week) but SJC will hold regular classes those days as well.  Please note – CCISD transportation will not be available on these three CCISD holidays.  Students will have to provide their own transportation to SJC on November 8, 21 and 22.

Trick or Treat for Unicef:  Hey kids, did you know that #firstworldproblems isn’t just a catchy Twitter hashtag?  It’s also a statement on the plight of many people around the world compared to our problems.  Want to do something to help?  You can!  Trick or Treat for Unicef is a national campaign that combines TWO amazing activities: fundraising for those less fortunate than us and Trick or Treating!  Kids around the country will go trick or treat and, instead of asking for candy, they will ask for donations.  That money will be used to help save children’s lives in over 190 countries and territories through immunization, education, health care, nutrition, clean water and sanitation.  Like the idea but want the candy?  That’s ok too, through Monday, October 31, you’ll find decorative jugs in several classrooms where you can donate your loose change and help out those who need it the most.  Thanks!

Spirit Week: ATTENTION COYOTES!! Spirit Week/ Red Ribbon Week is almost here! Next week – Monday, October 24 – Friday, October 28 we are going to show our great coyote character by saying NO to drugs and dressing up!

Movie Monday: Dress up like a character from a movie!

Tie-Dye Tuesday: Wear all your groovy tie-dye

World Wednesday: Wear cultural attire

Throwback Thursday: Wear clothes from your favorite decade!

Freedom Friday: Wear red!

All clothes must be school appropriate

Fall Dance: Come one! Come all! Fall dance is hosted by the Student Council and will be held in the BQR Friday, October 28, from 7pm-9pm. Tickets will be sold Monday, October 24 – Friday, October 28. Cost is $5.00 during the week and $7.00 at the door on Friday.  The dance is mystery themed and will include a whodunit game! Please come in a school appropriate Halloween costume.  Reminder – if you are planning on bringing someone who is not a student at Clear Horizons, you must pick up a Guest Form at the front office.  The form has to be signed by your guest’s school administrator and returned to Dr. Lemley BEFORE the end of the school day Friday.

Business Professionals of America (BPA):  All students interested in joining Business Professionals of America must get Ms. Kahlich their $40.00 in state and national dues by Friday, October 28.  Ms. Kahlich can be found in either 9.109 or 9.116 to drop off your dues.

PSAT:  All students in grades 9 – 11 will be taking the PSAT Wednesday, November 2.  Get a good night’s rest and come ready to score high on this national exam!!

Refugee Hygiene Drive:  While it's easy not to think about applying deodorant or brushing your teeth, many people who have grown up in refugee camps have never done either of these. In an effort to better communicate and facilitate American hygiene, Refugee Resettlement is beginning to give out hygiene kits to its new clients. We are looking for donations of new, unopened deodorant, shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and shaving cream to provide them with. A donation box will be in the front office through Thursday, November 3. Thank you for your generosity.

Friday “A” Day:  Because of the PSAT exam day, Friday, November 4, will be a Friday, “A” Day.  Students will meet only “A” day classes.  All freshmen and sophomores will report to the BQR during the period in which they have a college class scheduled.

Late Arrival Day: Wednesday, November 16, is a CCISD High School Late Arrival Day.  There will be no morning neighborhood buses available due to CCISD High School Late Arrival. Clear Horizons buses will still run from the 5 zoned high schools (a shuttle does not run from Clear View High School on Late Arrival Days).  Clear Horizons does not participate in Late Arrival Days, therefore all Clear Horizons students are required to attend all classes on that day.

NHS Table Tutors: Would you like to have a free tutor who has successfully navigated the Horizons workload? Come to the BQR on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to get immediate help, schedule an after school tutoring session (held in a high school teacher's classroom), or to find out more about secrets of success at Horizons. These friendly experienced tutors will be stationed at a table near check-in between 1:15 -1:45 pm. What a great resource - but only if you use it!

Advisory: Advisory class begins at 8:00 AM Monday through Friday.  Students who arrive after 8:00 AM MUST report to the office to check into school, regardless of their arrival time throughout the day.  The only time a student may report directly to class is to advisory class at 8:00 AM.

Service Learning:  Service learning hours should be submitted to a basket in the office where students can turn in hours at any point in the year.  To help students stay organized with Service Learing Hours, we have suggested due dates for the summer and fall semester:

August 31 – Summer Service Learning Hours Due (Any hours accumulated over the summer should be turned in by this date.)

December 9 – Fall Service Learning Hours Due (Any hours accumulated throughout the Fall semester should be turned in by this date.)

The absolute final due date for all Service Learning hours to be submitted is:

March 31 – All Service Learning Hours (at least 20 hours) must be turned in by this date.

As service learning is a key aspect of our mission at Clear Horizons, students who do not meet the 20 hour requirement will meet with Clear Horizons administration to explain the deficit.  Students who refuse to meet the requirement will be returned to their zoned campus.

Dress Code:  Clear Horizons follows the CCISD dress code.  The student dress code can be found on our website under the “For Parents” tab or the “For Students” tab.  http://chechs.ccisd.net/UserFiles/Servers/Server_655841/File/Dress%20Code%202016%202017.pdf

Late Bus:  Clear Horizons provides a late bus that runs every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:00 PM.  The Late Bus began running this Tuesday, August 31.  The late bus will be in front of our school by 5:00 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday and typically departs within 10 minutes. The late bus will drop off in two locations: The East side of 45 at Clear Creek High School and on the West side of 45 at Brookside Intermediate. Students who are planning on riding the late bus must request a pass from the office. The request must be made for official business only (ie tutorials, a rehearsal, detention, etc.). A bus pass must be picked up before 1:00 p.m. on the day you want to ride (Tuesday or Thursday). No bus passes will be issued after lunch.  If you do not have a pass you will not be allowed to ride the bus.   If no one has picked up a late bus pass, the bus will be cancelled. Students, make sure that your parent/guardian knows that you are staying late and catching the late bus. The front office closes at 4:00 p.m.  When signing up for pass students must include the following:

1) Purpose – Why are you staying late?

2) Location from 3:30 – 5:00 – Where will you be?

3) Parent Permission – Did you let your parent know you were staying late?

The reason we must have this information is so that we can find you in case of an emergency.
