New Student and Parent Orientation:  New students and parents MUST attend one orientation session for Clear Horizons. Those who did not attend this past Tuesday, MUST attend TOMORROW Thursday, March 9.  Orientation begins at 7:00 PM and will be held in the Banquet Room, upstairs in the Student Center (Building 11) at SJC South.

 

AP Exam Sales:  AP exams are on sale until March 23

 (http://apps.ccisd.net/AssessmentRegistration/signin/default.aspx) and log in with the student’s CCISD ID and Lunch Pin #.  The cost is $93 per exam (or $24 if you qualify for a fee reduction), and payment may be made with a credit card, cash, or check. 

 

Prom Tickets:  Tickets will be sold for $40 this week March 6 – March 10, as well as the week students return from Spring Break March 20 – March 24.  After March 24th, ticket prices will increase for any late ticket sales.  All tickets must be bought exclusively from Ms. James, either in the morning before advisory, or after the school day ends.  Students may not come during class time to purchase tickets.  If a student would like to bring a non-Clear Horizons guest, they must pick up a guest form from the front office.  All forms should be picked up in time to receive the necessary signatures from the guest’s school as well as from Clear Horizons administration.  Forms must be completed at the time of ticket purchase.

In addition, to attend prom, all seniors must be in attendance for the Field Trip scheduled for April 21.

 

Spring Field Day:  Clear Horizons will celebrate all our students’ hard work this semester with the Spring Field Day, Friday, March 10

 

Spring Break!  Spring Break will occur from Monday, March 13 to Friday, March 17.  Enjoy the Break!!

 

UHCL STEM Challenge:  Students interested in the free UHCL STEM Challenge Saturday, April 8, from 8:30-2:00 should email Mrs. Hampton or stop by room 9.266 to sign up and give her your email address and t-shirt size.  Lunch is provided, and students win prizes in drawings held that day.  Teams of 3 or 4 will compete.  Students with programming experience are needed (one per team).  We must register early to make sure we get in.  

 

Amazon Smile!  The Clear Horizons Booster Club is now on Amazon Smile!  Simply follow this link https://smile.amazon.com/ch/26-3510958 and you will be donating to the Clear Horizons Booster Club!!  The link looks like a generic CCISD identification, but it is really for the Clear Horizons Boosters!

 

Yearbook:  Yearbooks are currently for sale for $35 on balfour.com.   You may also pay cash or check, payable to CHECHS, to Mrs. Hampton in Room 9.266.

 

NHS Table Tutors: Would you like to have a free tutor who has successfully navigated the Horizons workload? Come to the BQR on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to get immediate help, schedule an after school tutoring session (held in a high school teacher's classroom), or to find out more about secrets of success at Horizons. These friendly experienced tutors will be stationed at a table near check-in between 1:15 -1:45 pm. What a great resource - but only if you use it! 

 

Late Bus:  Clear Horizons provides a late bus that runs every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:00 PM.  The late bus will be in front of our school by 5:00 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday and typically departs within 10 minutes. The late bus will drop off in two locations: The East side of 45 at Clear Creek High School and on the West side of 45 at Brookside Intermediate. Students who are planning on riding the late bus must request a pass from the office. The request must be made for official business only (ie tutorials, a rehearsal, detention, etc.). A bus pass must be picked up before 1:00 p.m. on the day you want to ride (Tuesday or Thursday). No bus passes will be issued after lunch.  If you do not have a pass you will not be allowed to ride the bus.  If no one has picked up a late bus pass, the bus will be cancelled. Students, make sure that your parent/guardian knows that you are staying late and catching the late bus. The front office closes at 4:00 p.m.  When signing up for pass students must include the following:

1) Purpose – Why are you staying late?

2) Location from 3:30 – 5:00 – Where will you be?

3) Parent Permission – Did you let your parent know you were staying late?

The reason we must have this information is so that we can find you in case of an emergency.

 

 

Service Learning Opportunities:

 

Caregivers' Conference:  The Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and Interfaith Care Partners 6th annual Caregivers' Conference is Saturday, March 18.  Volunteers are needed for Friday, March 17, from 12:00 – 4:30 PM, and Saturday, March 18, from 7:20 AM – 2:20 PM.  The primary responsibilities are to greet the conference attendees including speakers and exhibitors, assisting attendees with campus directions, and to be a workshop host (welcoming participants, distributing and collecting evaluations). Volunteers receive lunch catered by Pomodoros!  For information email Deb Hale, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church volunteer coordinator at isam39@verizon.net.

 

Seabrook Lucky Trails Saturday 5K:  Volunteers are needed for the The Seabrook Lucky Trails Saturday 5K, which will be held Saturday, March 18, benefitting the Clear Creek Education Foundation!!  This is a great opportunity to promote healthy lifestyles in your community and have fun at the same time!!

Youth Basketball:  Coaches and Referees Needed!!! Training Meeting will be held March 19th time TBA. Season goes from March 20 – May 27; 1st game on April 1st

 HEAD COACH

Impact the lives of young athletes by volunteering as a head coach. Be the one to teach young athletes the rules of the game, help them develop new skills. Don’t worry, Upward Sports will be there with you all along the way to provide all the resources you’ll need to instruct your team and have a lasting impact in their lives.

Time Commitment: 2 Hours per week

                1 hour practice during the week and 1 hour Saturday morning game

ASSISTANT COACH

Make a difference in the lives of young athletes by helping the head coach teach both athletic skills and values for success.  Use this time to see if you might want to be a head coach in the future.

Time Commitment: 2 Hours per week

                1 hour practice during the week and 1 hour Saturday morning game

REFEREE

Do you have a passion for the sport and have a working knowledge of the rules of the game?  If so, use this gift to make an impact in the lives of young athletes as an Upward Sports Referee. Be the one who can make the necessary calls, uphold the integrity of the game, and help athletes improve their understanding of the sport.

Time Commitment:  Saturday Mornings

 

CCISD Science Extravaganza:  The CCISD Science Extravaganza is in need of volunteers Wednesday, March 22, at Space Center Houston. Volunteers are needed at the following times: 

Set-up help: 4:00-6:00PM     Event help: 6:00-8:30PM

Paws With A Cause:  The non-profit, CANBE, is hosting the first annual Paws With A Cause fundraiser, benefitting the Nassau Bay Animal Shelter on Saturday, April 1, from 11am-3pm. All volunteers will receive a delicious lunch cooked by the Holy Smokers from Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, and the thanks of the CANBE and the City of Nassau Bay Animal Shelter. Clear Lake United Methodist Church Eggstravaganza:  Clear Lake United Methodist Church will hold their annual “Eggstravaganza” Saturday, April 15, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and are in need of several helpers to run stations. This is an outreach to our surrounding community as many of them come and hunt eggs, get pictures with the Easter bunny and have fun. If you are interested in volunteering at this event, please contact Ms. Villareal at   jennyv@clearlakemethodist.org.

 

Weber Carnival:  Weber Elementary School is having a Carnival on April 22, and are in need of volunteers to work game booths and monitor the inflatables.  A sign up genius has been created for this event.  Reminders will be sent out as we get closer to the date. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0d4cacab2fa2ff2-weber/

 

The Crossings Fish Fry:  Twenty students are needed to volunteer at The Crossings Fish Fry on Sunday, April 30 from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM.  Students will be involved in setting up, including decorating, bringing in auction items, plating food to serve guests, fill beverages, and clear up plates. The location is 255 N. Egret Bay Blvd. in League City.  Students should comply with school dress code or you may be asked to leave.  If you are interested, please email Mrs. Nylen at nnylen@ccisd.net with a phone number and email address.
