Welcome Back!!  Happy 2017!!

BPA Contestants: Mandatory meetings in 9.116 will be held Tuesday, January 3, Thursday, January 5, and Thursday, January 12.  Pre-submit competitions are due by 8:00 PM on Friday, January 6. Our competition is Saturday, January 14, so we need the time to complete our preparation.

VASE Art Competition:  The annual VASE UIL Art Competition registration deadline is THIS Thursday, Jan. 5. The event occurs Saturday, February 4, at Dickinson High School. If you would like to participate in VASE, you must register with Mr. Martin in room 106 before the end of the day Thursday.

Attention All Filmmakers:
The Texas Association of School Boards is conducting a student video contest “Show the World Why Your School Rocks!”  What makes your school exceptional? Why do you love it so much? How has your school earned the support of the community? What makes Texas public schools the best choice? Make a video to show the world why your school ROCKS! You just might win some money for your classroom or campus!  There can only be one entry per campus.  Interested filmmakers should stop by the office and pick up an entry form.  Videos are due to the Clear Horizons Office no later than the end of the school day, this Friday, January 6, 2017.

Math Club/Math Contest:  There is a free math contest at University of Houston, Main Campus Saturday, January 28, 2017 and the more students we have participate, the greater the chance we could win a school trophy. There are course contests (students must be enrolled in the course): Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Cal (Calculus I students are eligible for Pre-Cal test).  There are open contests, too: Statistics, Physics, Calculus,  and Calculator. At lunch, there is a Smackdown, single elimination contest, with questions from Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. Please sign up by emailing Mrs. Hampton at champton@ccisd.net to indicate which contests you would like to enter. The UH Math Contest is from 9a.m.- 1:00p.m.  Prizes and scholarships will be awarded.  A bus will be provided for those students who wish to participate.  The bus will leave Clear Horizons at 8:00 AM and return at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 28, 2017.

8th Grade Student/Parent Information Nights:  It’s that time of year!  The time when we pack up our information and tour the district telling 8th grade students and their families about our amazing school!  Clear Horizons will be conducting 8th Grade Student/Parent Information Nights on the following dates:

Thursday, January 12 – Clear Lake Intermediate School

Tuesday, January 17 – Bayside Intermediate School

Thursday, January 19 – Victory Lakes Intermediate School

Tuesday, January 24 – Brookside Intermediate School

Thursday, February 9 – Clear Creek Intermediate School

Thursday, February 16 – Clear Horizons ECHS (SJC South Bldg 11)

All sessions will begin at 6:00 PM.  Come out and speak with administrators, counselors, and current Clear Horizons students to find out about our amazing school!!

Amazon Smile!  The Clear Horizons Booster Club is now on Amazon Smile!  Simply follow this link https://smile.amazon.com/ch/26-3510958 and you will be donating to the Clear Horizons Booster Club!!  The link looks like a generic CCISD identification, but it is really for the Clear Horizons Boosters!

Yearbook:  Yearbooks are currently for sale for $35 on balfour.com.  You may also pay cash or check, payable to CHECHS, to Mrs. Hampton in Room 9.266.

NHS Table Tutors: Would you like to have a free tutor who has successfully navigated the Horizons workload? Come to the BQR on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to get immediate help, schedule an after school tutoring session (held in a high school teacher's classroom), or to find out more about secrets of success at Horizons. These friendly experienced tutors will be stationed at a table near check-in between 1:15 -1:45 pm. What a great resource - but only if you use it!

Late Bus:  Clear Horizons provides a late bus that runs every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:00 PM.  The late bus will be in front of our school by 5:00 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday and typically departs within 10 minutes. The late bus will drop off in two locations: The East side of 45 at Clear Creek High School and on the West side of 45 at Brookside Intermediate. Students who are planning on riding the late bus must request a pass from the office. The request must be made for official business only (ie tutorials, a rehearsal, detention, etc.). A bus pass must be picked up before 1:00 p.m. on the day you want to ride (Tuesday or Thursday). No bus passes will be issued after lunch.  If you do not have a pass you will not be allowed to ride the bus.  If no one has picked up a late bus pass, the bus will be cancelled. Students, make sure that your parent/guardian knows that you are staying late and catching the late bus. The front office closes at 4:00 p.m.  When signing up for pass students must include the following:

1) Purpose – Why are you staying late?

2) Location from 3:30 – 5:00 – Where will you be?

3) Parent Permission – Did you let your parent know you were staying late?

The reason we must have this information is so that we can find you in case of an emergency.
