Trick or Treat for Unicef:  Hey kids, did you know that #firstworldproblems isn’t just a catchy Twitter hashtag?  It’s also a statement on the plight of many people around the world compared to our problems.  Want to do something to help?  You can!  Trick or Treat for Unicef is a national campaign that combines TWO amazing activities: fundraising for those less fortunate than us and Trick or Treating!  Kids around the country will go trick or treat and, instead of asking for candy, they will ask for donations.  That money will be used to help save children’s lives in over 190 countries and territories through immunization, education, health care, nutrition, clean water and sanitation.  Like the idea but want the candy?  That’s ok too, through TODAY Monday, October 31, you’ll find decorative jugs in several classrooms where you can donate your loose change and help out those who need it the most.  Thanks!

PSAT:  All students in grades 9 – 11 will be taking the PSAT Wednesday, November 2.  All students will report to their regular Advisory class by 8:00 AM in order to begin the PSAT.

Get a good night’s rest and come ready to score high on this national exam!!

Refugee Hygiene Drive:  While it's easy not to think about applying deodorant or brushing your teeth, many people who have grown up in refugee camps have never done either of these. In an effort to better communicate and facilitate American hygiene, Refugee Resettlement is beginning to give out hygiene kits to its new clients. We are looking for donations of new, unopened deodorant, shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and shaving cream to provide them with. A donation box will be in the front office until Thursday, November 3. Thank you for your generosity.

Friday “A” Day:  Because of the PSAT exam day, Friday, November 4, will be a Friday, “A” Day.  Students will meet only “A” day classes.  All freshmen and sophomores will report to the BQR during the period in which they have a college class scheduled.

Senior College Visit:  The senior class will be visiting the University of Houston Friday, November 4

Generation Texas Week:  Clear Creek ISD will celebrate Generation Texas Week November 7-11. This is a time to encourage students to explore their future options with college or career education, no matter what grade level, and also provide support and motivation to seniors who are applying to college and for financial aid this school year.

November Calendar Alert!  There are three CCISD holidays in November where SJC will still be holding classes.  November 8 is a CCISD student holiday, but SJC will hold regular classes.  November 21 and 22 are both CCISD holidays (the beginning of Thanksgiving Holiday week) but SJC will hold regular classes those days as well.  Please note – CCISD transportation will not be available on these three CCISD holidays.  Students will have to provide their own transportation to SJC on November 8, 21 and 22.

College and Career Fair: CCISD will host the annual College and Career Fair at the Education Village (Clear Falls High School) Wednesday, November 9, from 6-8 p.m. Click here for the current list of colleges and employers attending.

Progress Reports: The first Progress Report of the 2nd nine weeks will be posted/distributed Thursday, November 10.  Please discuss this important report with your student.

Friday “B” Day:  Because of the Tuesday CCISD student holiday, Friday, November 11, will be a Friday, “B” Day.  Students will meet only “B” day classes.  All freshmen and sophomores will report to the BQR during the period in which they have a college class scheduled.

Senior Service Learning Trip:  The senior Class will be taking a service learning trip to Hermann Park Friday, November 11.  Students should have the following for the trip:  Clear Horizons t-shirt, close-toed shoes, dress for the weather (could be chilly – wear layers) NO short shorts, hats or hair securing devices, and sunscreen.  We will be outdoors the entire time so you may want to bring plenty of water and a snack

Late Arrival Day: Wednesday, November 16, is a CCISD High School Late Arrival Day.  There will be no morning neighborhood buses available due to CCISD High School Late Arrival. Clear Horizons buses will still run from the 5 zoned high schools (a shuttle does not run from Clear View High School on Late Arrival Days).  Clear Horizons does not participate in Late Arrival Days, therefore all Clear Horizons students are required to attend all classes on that day.

Come to the BQR on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to get immediate help, schedule an after school tutoring session (held in a high school teacher's classroom), or to find out more about secrets of success at Horizons. These friendly experienced tutors will be stationed at a table near check-in between 1:15 -1:45 pm. What a great resource - but only if you use it!

Late Bus:  Clear Horizons provides a late bus that runs every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:00 PM.  The late bus will be in front of our school by 5:00 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday and typically departs within 10 minutes. The late bus will drop off in two locations: The East side of 45 at Clear Creek High School and on the West side of 45 at Brookside Intermediate. Students who are planning on riding the late bus must request a pass from the office. The request must be made for official business only (ie tutorials, a rehearsal, detention, etc.). A bus pass must be picked up before 1:00 p.m. on the day you want to ride (Tuesday or Thursday). No bus passes will be issued after lunch.  If you do not have a pass you will not be allowed to ride the bus.  If no one has picked up a late bus pass, the bus will be cancelled. Students, make sure that your parent/guardian knows that you are staying late and catching the late bus. The front office closes at 4:00 p.m.  When signing up for pass students must include the following:

1) Purpose – Why are you staying late?

2) Location from 3:30 – 5:00 – Where will you be?

3) Parent Permission – Did you let your parent know you were staying late?

The reason we must have this information is so that we can find you in case of an emergency.
