Tutorial and Bridge Programs

Tutoring and Bridge Program

Clear Horizons students have opportunities for tutoring in high school courses several times each week.  Two advisory periods (as well as the short Friday advisory period) are set aside each week to allow students to travel to any teacher they need to receive a tutoring session.  Clear Horizons also has a late bus which runs every Tuesday and Thursday to allow students to stay after school to attend tutorials, study, or work on group projects.  Students may also make appointments with high school teachers for tutoring sessions.

Students who need support in college classes are encouraged to attend supplemental instruction sessions for the course, make an appointment with the professor, visit the SJC Student Success Center, or seek support from their high school teachers.  Although nothing is better than approaching the professor, these additional avenues provide support for those students whose professors’ office hours do not coincide with time out of class for the student.

Each summer, Clear Horizons holds two bridge camps; a Pre-AP camp for students who have not taken a Pre-AP in their educational career, and a Coyote Camp, for all students who are new to our campus.  The Pre-AP camp focuses on getting to know the teachers of the freshman classes, get some exposure to the curriculum for each course, and begin to develop a sense for the degree of time management, study skills, and effort it will take to be successful in such a rigorous environment.  Coyote Camp is more of an orientation to the campus, college life, and high school procedures.  Students meet upper classmen, go through a session with the Dual Credit office, explore the campus, and receive information critical to success in the first weeks of school.
